Over
the past nine years the GMAC Bowl has built a reputation
of fielding some of the most competitive and exciting
games of the bowl season. The GMAC Bowl, repeatedly
rated as one of the top 10 bowl games to watch, has
seen sell-out crowds, record breaking performances and
last second heroics! |

In
the 2000 GMAC Bowl, Southern Mississippi quarterback
Jeff Kelly threw a 29-yard touchdown pass with eight
seconds remaining to lift the Golden Eagles over 13
th ranked TCU. In the highest scoring game in college
football bowl history, the Thundering Herd of Marshall,
led by quarterback Byron Leftwich, overcame a 30 point
halftime defeciet to rally past East Carolina 64-61
in double overtime to win the 2001 GMAC Bowl. The game
was declared an "Instant Classic" by ESPN. The game
also made the 25 greatest moments in ESPN History. Read

Tomlinson ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns
to lead TCU to a 28-14 victory over No. 20 East
Carolina in the inaugural Mobile Alabama Bowl.
The Horned Frogs confused East Carolina with a
two-quarterback option attack and completely shut
down the Pirates' running game, holding them to
minus-16 yards.

AL (AP) Jeff Kelly's 29-yard touchdown pass to
freshman Kenny Johnson with eight seconds left
lifted Southern Mississippi to a 28-21 victory
over Texas Christian (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No.
13 AP) in the Mobile Alabama Bowl on Wednesday
night.
That saved Bower from canceling a redshirt year
for placekicker Curtis Jones for one last attempt
after four missed field goals.

Ala. (AP) -- Marshall and East Carolina piled
up the points so quickly that even the coaches
had trouble keeping track.
In the highest-scoring bowl game in history, Marshall
rallied past the Pirates 64-61 in double overtime
Wednesday night to win the GMAC Bowl behind Byron
Leftwich's 576 yards passing.

Ala. -- Byron Leftwich and Marshall didn't need
a miracle comeback this time in the GMAC Bowl.
Leftwich became
the first player in Division I-A history to
throw four touchdown passes in two bowl games,
leading Marshall to a 38-15 victory over Louisville
on Wednesday night.

Roethlisberger ended his college career in style.
Roethlisberger passed for 376 yards and four first-half
touchdowns to lead No. 14 Miami of Ohio to a 49-28
victory over Louisville in the GMAC Bowl on Thursday
night before announcing his decision to leave
school early for the NFL.
A third-team Associated
Press All-American, Roethlisberger is a likely
top 10 pick in April's NFL draft.

Ala. (AP) Omar Jacobs went from Bowling Green's
question mark to the Mid-American Conference's
latest star quarterback.
Jacobs capped a marvelous
sophomore season by passing for 365 yards and
five touchdowns to lead the Falcons to a 52-35
victory over Memphis on Wednesday night in the
GMAC Bowl.|

ran, passed and scored almost at will. David Thomas
and the defense shut down a potent UTEP offense
and even scored once, too.

a smothering defense, Southern Miss gave Ohio
a tough lesson on postseason play.
The Golden Eagles
also gave a pretty good tutorial on how to make
a halftime lead hold up in a 28-7 victory over
the Bobcats on Sunday night in the GMAC Bowl.

of points. Just ask Bowling Green.
Smith
had his NCAA-record 14th consecutive 300-yard
passing game and Tulsa converted four fumble
recoveries into first- half touchdowns on the
way to a 63-7 romp in the GMAC Bowl on Sunday
night.

Ala. (AP) -Tulsa raced through the rain to another
GMAC Bowl win and a couple more records, too.
Tarrion Adams rushed
for 207 yards and three touchdowns in the 45-13
victory over No. 23 Ball State on a soggy Tuesday
night. The Golden Hurricane (11-3) finished
with a school-record 11 victories.
