The GMAC Bowl Miller Light Celebrity Golf Tournament is held annually at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove. Participants include, bowl sponsors, coaches and administrators from the Sunbelt Conference and the Mid American Conference, as well as sports celebrities from across the nation. The tournament kicks off the 2011 GMAC Bowl Season.

The GMAC Bowl presents the 5th annual Cheerleading Competition. The event will be open to all Junior High, Junior Varsity and Varsity squads both Co-Ed and All Girls. The competition will consist of two categories; building and non-building. Each winning team will perform during the Coors Classic Basketball Doubleheader and the GMAC Bowl.

The contest will run from September 6, through October 29, 2010 followed by an awards ceremony on November 17, 2010. The 2010 Coors Classic Basketball Game will feature South Alabama and Louisiana State University of the Southeastern Conference. In 2009 South Alabama  played UAB loosing 54-72. In game 2 the University of Alabama was defeated by Kansas State 74-87. The 2010 game will be televised by Comcast Charter Sports Southeast. HOAR Construction Reading and Writing Program

Nearly 2,000 local 4th grade students will attend this program at the Mobile Civic Center Theater to announce and award the 10 Reading and Writing contest winners with savings bonds. Representatives from GMAC and Hoar Construction will be on hand, as well as the University of South Alabama cheerleaders, in addition to a special presentation by the Blue Angels. Americas Junior Miss will also make a special guest appearance. This program strives to encourage students to read, write, and stay in school.

GMAC Bowl Team Welcoming Reception

The GMAC Bowl will host a southern-style shrimp boil at Ladd Peebles Stadium to welcome the coaches and players of each Bowl team, administration, both conference commissioners and their support staff, local and national media representatives, local and national corporate sponsors, Mobile city officials, and invited guests. The Welcoming Reception will be limited to 500 people. Invitation only.

Each participating football team, traveling party and invited guests will enjoy a lunch on the famous World War II battleship, the USS Alabama. Bowl sponsors, city officials and local media have the opportunity to meet each team's players and coaches, as well as visit this historic Mobile landmark. An estimated crowd of more than 500 people is expected to attend.

Wintzell's Oyster House Wives Day Out

Wives Day Out is a special day for the spouses of the many coaches and conference staffs participating in the Bowl game. The day includes shopping and visits to local historical sites. Lunch is provided by Wintzell's Oyster House and transportation is provided by Colonial Trailways.

A special guest speaker will address city officials, media, corporate sponsors, traveling parties of each Bowl team and other guests at a special banquet. NBA All-Star Charles Barkley spoke in 2010.

During the banquet, the GMAC Bowl, along with GMAC Financial Services, will honor "Champions of Life." The Champions of Life honor is given to individuals who have achieved great success through dedication and hard work. They have overcome the many obstacles that have stood in the path of success and have given a great deal back to the community and country.


Greer's Food Tiger Mardi Gras Parade

A Mardi Gras parade will be held in the streets of downtown Mobile starting at 6:30 pm. Sixteen Mardi Gras societies will be represented with floats and throws for the crowd. Several local high school marching bands will join the parade, as well as the bands and cheerleaders from each participating Bowl team. A huge crowd is expected to pack the streets of downtown Mobile for this early rendition of the Mardi Gras season.
